The Kurz Calendar Illustrations

Every year from 1954 until 2001, the Kurz Oil Company commissioned a talented illustrator to create artwork for their annual calendar. Featuring classic scenes from the early days of Port Washington, NY, the earlier pen and ink sketches were done by a local artist and policeman William Galloway. After Galloway's death, the company often hired noted illustrator John Meola, who completed more than a dozen illustrations for the company from the early 1970s through the early 1990s.

This collection of drawings was donated to our Historical Society by Donald Kurz, the last owner of Kurz Oil Company, a local retail home heating oil delivery and oil burner service started by his father, William Kurz.
