Here is what happened at the Fall Country Fair: The grounds were a paradise for kids and grown-ups alike. For children, there was a petting zoo with the baby animals they loved to feed, pony rides, games, face painting, a fire truck that they climbed on, a real blacksmith (and his brother the broom-maker!), popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs and lots more.
The Sampawams Creek boys sang traditional songs, as did the Long Island Harmonica Club. The Civil War re-enactors were encamped with fife and drum.
Many good folks came and enjoyed a weaving demonstration, a blacksmith, a broom-maker, antiques, crafts, jewelry, great used books, antique tools, and bargain-basement treasures.
We sold our own local honey and enjoyed a hot dog, cotton candy, popcorn and sandwich wraps.
Also on display were the Society's delightful postcards and old photos of Port Washington the way it was, in the early 1900s (as recently shown at the PW Public Library). |
